Best Parks & Hiking Trails Near Sturgis, Michigan

Whether you’re a Michigan native or just passing through to ‘see the sights’, you’re in luck! The Great Lakes State has a multitude of scenic views. It also has fun trail networks that give hikers of all speeds plenty to explore.
No matter where you are in this amazing state, there’s no shortage of beautiful landscapes and varied terrain.
We are proudly located in Sturgis, Michigan. Ounces Provisioning Center closely neighbors some of the most impressive forests and county parks in the country. (There are nearly 12,500 miles of state-designated trails and pathways.)
We want to shout out our local parks system and promote the importance of physical activity in the cannabis sphere.
Keep following along with this blog. We’ll go over 3 of our favorite parks in the Sturgis area!
#1. Rawson’s King Mill County Park
Firstly, Rawson’s King Mill County Park is located twenty minutes north of Sturgis. It was donated by Eston and Lydia Rawson. They restored the mill and created this often-visited area on Nottawa Creek.
This park offers a lot. It has a scenic dam and waterfalls, a historic mill, and over 7 beautiful acres of bridges, paths, and gardens strewn across 2 islands.
You can easily spend a whole day getting lost here. Rawson’s is a known favorite spot for local photographers and nature lovers. This is due to its unique landscape/setup.
#2. Timm Preserve
Next, Timm Preserve is a lightly-trafficked loop of trails located 15 minutes west of Sturgis. The park covers 95 natural acres. It was donated to St. Joseph County in 2002 on the condition that it be used for conservation and park purposes.
Its 3 miles of well-cut hiking trails wind through woodlands and wetlands. There’s also a recently installed boardwalk and bridge.
We love these trails! Why? Because they offer the chance to see abundant wildlife, vegetation, while providing paths for all skill levels.
The trails are primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching. Dogs welcome! (*Your pup must be kept on a leash.)
#3. Plumb Lake County Park
Last but certainly not least, Plumb Lake County Park is one of St. Joseph County Parks’ newest developments. It is located just a few minutes from the heart of Sturgis. This county park offers a little bit of everything.
Plumb Lake allows you to hike around the prairie or woodland areas with tons of boardwalks and bridges.
Just looking to ‘chill out’?
The lake also offers a large fishing and observation pier. This allows you to head out for a paddle on the lake using its ADA kayak launch. Another great thing is that the park’s hiking trails also serve as biking trails.
As mentioned, it has an abundance of well-groomed trails. Therefore, Plumb Lake Park also serves as a great place to cross-country ski in the winter.
Be sure to come visit in the spring months. There’s an overlook deck to experience coreopsis flowers blooming!
