Given this, we wanted to expand on an idea and share some of the best things to do in Southern Michigan on a day out in our beautiful state, apart from our awesome park and forest systems.

The small towns sprinkled throughout the green landscapes of Southern Michigan (accompanied by the sandy beaches closer to Lake Michigan) each surely bring their own individual vibe.
Our absolute favorite draws of South Michigan tourism lie in lakeside visits, scenic regions with unbeatable trails and paths, farms, quaint restaurants, art, and live entertainment. There’s so much to explore.

Best Towns & Areas for a Scenic Day Out
Looking for a casual city stroll, a relaxing day out, or wanting to experience some nightlife and live music?
The beach town of South Haven offers tons of options, with opportunities for biking and skating, as well as awesome beach views.
The larger cities of Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor blend a vibrant and progressive downtown with the welcoming atmosphere of a medium-sized town that meets all the needs of city tourism.
On the other hand, you certainly can’t go wrong on the southwestern side of Michigan. Experiencing the Lake Michigan sunset, climbing the dunes at Warren Dunes State Park, sailing out on the water, or grabbing a couple of paddle boards and kayaks all make for an unbeatable time.

Museums & Art Attractions in Southern Michigan
Last, but certainly not least, the museums and art of The Great Lakes State make up a fundamental part of the state’s cultural history—past and present.
Firstly, if you’re wanting to take a trip up to south-central Michigan, you’ll never go wrong with a Grand Rapids visit.
The Grand Rapids Art Museum hosts collections ranging from Renaissance to Modern Art, as well as many special collection exhibits on 19th and 20th-century European and American art. This museum holds its own as one of the best in the state.
Looking to stay more south? The Ella Sharp Museum is listed on the national register of historic places in the United States and is dedicated to women’s and children’s rights/social history.
Another great option for maritime and sailing fans is the Michigan Maritime Museum in the town of South Haven. This museum even doubles as a research library.
